Mechanical Response Analysis for an Active–Passive Pile Adjacent to Surcharge Load

Due to the complexity of pile–soil interaction, there is little research on active–passive piles that bear pile-top load transmitted from superstructure and pile shaft caused by lateral soil movement around simultaneously. The purpose this study analyze displacement internal force piles. Most design codes in China use elastic resistance method describe relationship between horizontal pile, but not accurate enough deformation when large. For case, passive adjacent surcharge can be described stages, p–y curve used express pile. Additionally, taking both active (vertical force, bending moment top) into account, deflection differential equation herein established, a corresponding finite difference program implemented obtain calculations pursuant equation. correctness analysis was verified two test cases. results show our calculation effectively judge flow state accurately reflect nonlinear characteristics pile-soil interaction. Moreover, influence depth under condition significantly greater than condition, maximum pile-bending appears near interface soft hard layer.
